India is known as the ‘spice king’ all around the globe. Every dish is considered incomplete without that extra pinch of spice. But the game seems changing, with the global market raising concerns over its health concerns. A recent wave of concerns is bursting regarding the safety of these spice mixes.

However, Ashwin Nayak, the chairman of the Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders (FISS) has explained the reason behind using ethylene oxide to treat spices. According to him, ethylene oxide is used in order to keep people health. This is because if the spices are not processed in a certain manner, microbiological parameters like Salmonella, E-Coli, and Aflatoxin, are found in these which are dangerous for health. Hence, when these microbes are treated with ethylene oxide, the microbes come under control, hence eliminating health risks.

As per FISS, the recent buzz about Indian spices has tarnished India’s image as a global leader in the spice market. they believe that this buzz must be removed, and people must be made aware of the health reasons behind using these ingredients.
